Cambridge Glass Company

Cambridge Glass CompanyThe Cambridge Glass Company was located in Cambridge, Ohio and began operations in 1907. The original company was the National Glass Company, which was in operation from 1901 to 1907. When that company began to have financial problems it was purchased by its factory manager, Arthur J. Bennett and he formed Cambridge. In 1910 Cambridge purchased another nearby glass factory and began making glassware with etched patterns.

In the 1920s they began making full dinnerware sets and colored glassware. They also began using their trademark a C within a triangle in the 1920s, although not all pieces are marked. In the 1930s the most popular lines - Caprice, Rose Point and Statuesque - were introduced.

In 1939 Mr. Bennett sold the company to his son-in-law and the company continued to prosper through the 1940s. By the 1950s elegant glassware was not as popular with consumers and the company began to have financial problems. It was closed in 1954 and sold to another company. By 1958 it was permanently closed.

In 1960 Imperial Glass Company acquired many the Cambridge molds.

Cambridge is known primarily for its etched designs. Patterns include Apple Blossom, Candlelight, Caprice, Chantilly, Cleo, Decagon, Diane, Elaine, Gloria, Imperial Hunt Scene, Mt. Vernon, Portia, Rosalie, Rose Point, Valencia and Wildflower.
