Morgantown Glass Company
Initially all the glass tableware and tumblers were clear, but that didn't matter. The company grew rapidly and by two years later had over 600 employees and various branches in larger citites. This location made it easier for Morgantown to ship to Europe, Japan and even New Zealand.
In 1903 Morgantown changed its name to the Economy Tumbler glass. 7 years later, colors were introduced into the line and all manner of tableware went into mass production. For the next twenty years Economy Tumbler would continue adding a variety of designs and colors to please consumers. It was during this time that the highly popular Continental line was in production. This line continued to be produced until the company closed its doors in 1937.
Note that Morgantown changed its name to Economy Glass Company, then finally back to Morgantown GlassWorks in 1929. Grand Re-Opening 1939 That wasn't the end of the story however. In 1939 the firm reopened as Morgantown Glassware Guild, still producing tableware, bar ware and stem ware. One example of bar ware were "big shots" that were used for S&H Green Stamp sales. Today these are valued around $25.00 The Morgantown Glassware Guild was purchased in 1965 by Fostoria Glass Company, which closed down Morgantown permanently.
Morgantown was known throughout its history for on-going innovation and forward thinking. Their designers used unique shapes and high quality pieces. The most popular colors of glassware included ruby, magenta, jade, black, pink, Ritz blue, and amethyst. Morgantown Patterns
