Glass Bowl Identification Question - EAPG? Goofus Glass?

by Lori

I have a couple of these bowls that were my grandmothers who lived in
Hawaii. She was born in the early 1900's and from what I was told a lot was handed down to her. From what I can see there are no markings but was told it is rare depression glass. It has a gold bottom and pattern which you can feel it. The inside is smooth and you can see the gold pattern with red flowers under the smooth glass. The other one is pretty much the same but also has a pink ting around the top and is a tad bigger. Can anyone identify? Thank you,
Lori

Hi Debbie -
I am not familiar with this - it is not depression glass.
I am thinking it is probably what is considered EAPG - Early American Pattern Glass which is older than Depression Glass (made from 1850 to 1910) and usually more valuable.
It reminds me of "Goofus Glass" which is the term for glass from that era that was cold (un-fired) painted.
Maybe someone can help us out with some more info.
Suzanne

EAPG...Goofus Glass
by: Linda

It's Goofus Glass....a carnival give away in maybe the 1920'? Maybe older. It's a cheap newer version of carnival glass. The color is painted the outside of the glass and chips and washes off very easily. Treat it with great care.

Thanks Linda!
